Five ever-present mental states (sarvatraga) accompany every moment of cognition:
- Sensation (vedana) 受
- Perception (samjna) 想
- Intention (cetana) 思
- Contact (sparsa) 觸
- Attention (manaskara) 作意
Without them, our mind cannot perceive any objects. They are part of Fifty-one mental states (ekapancasaccaitasika).
