Jangtsey Chojey

Tibetan: བྱང་རྩེ་ཆོས་རྗེ     Chinese: 蔣哲曲傑

Jangtsey Chojey ("Dharma Master of the Northern Peak of Ganden Hill") is one of two abbots of Ganden Monastery.  Jangtsey Chojey is a former abbot of Gyume Tantric College. Jangtsey Chojey and Sharpa Chojey ("Dharma Master of the Eastern Peak of Ganden Hil"l) are appointed to the Ganden tripa, the throne holder of Ganden Monastery, on an alternating basis.

The post is obtained on merit alone through the ranks:

  • Obtain a Tsorampa or Lharampa Geshe degree from a Gelugpa monastery
  • Obtain a Ngagrampa Geshe degree from Gyuto or Gyume Tantric college
  • Rise on merit to become a Geko or disciplinarian of the the College
  • Become vice-abbot of the College
  • Become Abbot (3 year tenure) of the College
