Three Turnings of the Wheel of Dharma; 三轉法輪; Tibetan: ཆོས་འཁོར་རིམ་པ་གསུམ (chö khor rimpa sum); Wylie: chos ‘khor rim pa gsum; Sanskrit: Tridharmacakra;
Turnings of the Wheel of Dharma means teach Buddha Dharma:
- The first turning took place in the Deer Park at Sarnath, Varanasi, where Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths and Hinayana.
- The second turning took place on Vulture Peak Mountain near Rajagriha, on Prajnaparamita and Shunyata.
- The third final turning took place in Vaishali and other places and included the complete revelation the sutras that explain the three natures, such as the Lankavatara Sutra and abandoning clinging to emptiness.
Different Buddhism schools have their own classifications of the turnings. In Tibetan Buddhism, Vajrayana, Buddhist tantra is considered to be part of the third turning.
轉法輪意思是宣說佛法,釋迦牟尼說法分為三個階段:
- 初轉法輪,在鹿野苑轉阿含經等四諦法輪
- 二轉法輪,在靈鷲山轉般若經等法空法輪,明境空心有唯識道理,為不了義經;
- 三轉法輪,在毗舍離轉心境俱空平等一味,為了義經
三轉法輪有多種說法,藏傳佛教金剛乘中,第三轉包含了密法。
